Safety always comes first at our organization. We tell our team to allow enough time for travel, follow all traffic laws, always use appropriate PPE and obey all site-specific safety rules. When we arrive at a job site, we will review the scope of work and speak with our site contact for any questions.
Before we start doing any locating, we always want to understand why the locate is needed. Is our customer:
We always visually inspect the area before doing any work. Identifying potential safety hazards on a job site is key. We look for hazards like:
We review the scope we inspect for any indications of known utilities such as fire hydrants, manholes, and electrical boxes. We typically start with electromagnetic scanning using a Radio Detection digital locator. When we do EM, we are able to locate and find the path of buried utilities and trace metallic conductive utilities. In some cases, we augment the use of the digital locator by using a locatable Duct Rod and/or Sonde that is inserted into a non-metallic pipe to induce a locatable signal.
The next step in our process is finding and verifying unknown utilities. An unknown utility is a line found without an associated surface feature by which we can identify it. First, we scan the scope using the digital locator set on passive frequencies that can be detectable.
We also use an Aquatroncs A-6 Tracer to locate and verify unknown metallic utilities and objects such as Buried Tanks. Then we use Ground Penetrating Radar to locate and verify non-metallic utilities. All detectable lines and anomalies are designated with paint and flags.
Once we finish our steps for underground utility locating, we will work on your deliverable. We provide all our clients with a high-quality field sketch of our findings and make note of any limitations and any next step recommendations for your safety. We will take pictures of our work when allowed to give our customers more information about the work we just completed. We always will provide our customers with deliverables within 24 hours.
